A Thank You, A Make Over, and Thrifted Finds!

Hi All!  I hope you had a fabby weekend and that your week is off to a great start!  Mine is as I found that my darling little tiffany blue chair was featured at CAP CREATIONS this week!  WOO HOO!!  I love joining in their THRIFTY LOVE linky party (featured every Friday!) and there are other really wonderful things going on over there too.  You will definitely want to check them out!  Thanks Cap Creations :)

....And the excitement continues as I am really happy with the make over of the hunk of milk glass (posted last week) I fished out of a bin at the outlet.  Here it is BEFORE:

Here she is now!

I *love* it!  I think the milk glass was actually an up light but it looks right at home like this now...and on my nightstand :)  So here are the deets:  I took one of those fillable glass lamps --you know, the ones that have sea shells or flowers in it? (mine had sea shells!) -- I gutted it, spray-painted the base, rod and fittings with Rustoleum dark gray gloss ($7).   It fit perfectly inside the milk glass and I picked up a lamp shade from Lowe's for $6.50.  Not too bad for $14, huh!?

Here are my treasures this week and I must say, it's hard for me to choose a favorite!  First up, my Mad Men-esque clock...and it works!!!

This next find is one of those that pulls at your heart strings and immediately transports you back in time!  Shelly and I had this book when we were kids and there is a story poem in it, "My dear do you know," that we loved!  We even made a song out of it.  I was browsing the books in a thrift store in Richmond we hadn't been to before, "Harvest Thrift," and found it for $1.  This edition is from 1954.

I love this speckle-painted art deco peacock!  I have a peacock theme going on in the dining/living area room so that where it will live:

1950s Art Deco peacock, $2
I love these too:

Little brass shelf-sitter birdies (try saying that three time fast! LOL)  and here they are perched:

These were at the Hanover Habitat for Humanity for $1.50.  I am contemplating making them another color but feel guilty over painting the brass --what do you think?

I have been on the hunt for pink/green glass --or what I call watermelon glass.  There are some beautiful sets of wine glasses on ebay (Tiffin glass at that!) but a bit pricey.  I have lots of stemware so for me, it's not justifiable to spend the extra bucks but being a glassaholic, i really wanted watermelon glass.  So imagine how excited I was to see this:

Thank you, Teleflora!  Now it is equally true I have lots of vases but a watermelon glass one for 99c means I need it :)  I'm linking up!

  4. Hi Lisa, I'm visiting from The Thrifty Grove's Thrifty Things Friday. I was immediately drawn to your lamp. Beautiful job! I also love those little birds. I would leave them as is, but that's just me. I am your newest follower. If you get a chance I would love it if you would visit me sometime. Have a great day!
